In September 2014, the new Council of the Department of Electrical Engineering was established, which was in force until the middle of 2016. According to the General Regulations of Faculties of the University of Chile, it is composed of six members, two of whom are integrated in their own right (the Director and Chief Teacher) and 4 members who are elected.

The Departments will have a Department Council whose number of members will be defined for each by the Faculty Council. There will be members with specific functions that will be designated by the Director of the Department, and a number, no smaller than that of the designated members, of members elected by the academic faculty. The members of this Council may belong to any of the academic ranks.
The elected counselors will serve for two years in their functions, but can be reelected.
As guests, student representatives (undergraduate and graduate) may also participate on this Council when the subjects to be discussed merits it, and will be chosen in accordance with the procedures established by the student organization of their faculty.
Article 22 Of the Regulation designating the functions of the Council
It corresponds to the Academic Council of the Department:
- Approve the annual academic development plan and the corresponding budget.
- Approve the proposal, made by the Director of the Department, of an academic to fulfill the function of Subdirector. Once approved, that person is to be proposed to the Dean.
- Approve the plans for the management of projects and services submitted for consideration by the Director of the Department.
- Approve any others assigned by the regulations or entrusted to the Director of the Department.
